Establishing a Named Scholarship

Jean O‛Neill (above left), wife of John E. O‛Neill, established a scholarship in his memory. John was a life-long Johnson County resident who died in August 2005 at the age of 79. John was a graduate of St. Patrick High School in Iowa City and was the devoted husband of Jean and the loving father of five daughters, Kathy O‛Neill-Murphy ‛71; Susan Schneider ‛73; Mary Gilroy ‛75 (pictured above right); Shawn Lynch ‛76; and Patrice Gee ‛80, all of whom are Regina graduates. He was the grandfather of twelve, including Regina graduates Justin, Joshua and Jacob Gilroy, and Jennifer, Michael and Ryan Lynch.
John served the residents of Johnson County for 32 years as their County Recorder. He was also quite an active member in his Catholic community; attending St. Mary‛s, serving on the Knights of Columbus Marquette Council, past president of the St. Joseph Cemetery Committee and an avid Regina Booster Club member.
After Jean‛s death in 2012, her family chose to enhance the John E. O‛Neill Scholarship Fund with gifts to Jean‛s memorial. They renamed the scholarship the John and Jean O‛Neill Memorial Scholarship to memorializes this loving couple who believed strongly in Catholic education.

Named scholarships offer individuals, families, alumni/alumni classes, businesses, and other interested parties the opportunity to recognize a person’s life, accomplishments, and beliefs.
The criteria for a named scholarship shall be set by the donor in agreement with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors of the Regina Foundation. Donor/donor families are invited to present the scholarship at the annual Regina Scholarship Luncheon held each May at the school.
Please contact April Rouner at (319)354-5866 or info@icreginafoundation.com to find out more about establishing a named scholarship endowment. |
